It was the big night. Tonight, One Direction would perform on the Video Music Awards. All the boys were busy getting ready and Harry had a few moments alone. As Harry put on his suit jacket, he looked in the mirror. What he saw was a nervous 18 year-old ready to change his life forever. “Tonight’s the night,” he whispered as he fixed his fringe, “It’s time for everyone to know who I really am”.
Just then, a knock came from the dressing room door. “Hazza? Can I come in?”.
Harry answered to the familiar voice, “Yes, love”. As Louis walked in Harry’s eyes grew large. His perfect hair. His tight-fitting blazer and charming Converse. His eyes. His shining periwinkle-blue eyes that shimmered with beauty every time the light touched them. Everything about Louis was enough to make Harry weak at the knees.
Louis fumbled with his blazer a bit and then asked, “So, what do ya think? Too much?”
Harry snapped out of his love-induced trance and replied, “No. You look…God, you look perfect, Lou.” Louis smiled lovingly and looked down to his jacket pocket.
“I brought something for you,” Louis said mysteriously as he pulled out a red polka-dotted pocket hankie. Louis lovingly tucked the fabric into Harry’s chest pocket. When he was finished, he lightly patted Harry’s shoulders and intertwined his fingers with Harry’s large hands. “You look quite perfect as well, Haz”
The two stood there smiling at each other. Completely unaware of anything around them. They just looked into each other’s eyes. It was a familiar sight. The both of them looking at the other like they were both made of gold. But this was more than just the glimmer of a shiny metal. This was love. Pure, unadulterated love. Nothing could ruin this.
Harry caressed Louis’ cheek, “Lou. I don’t wanna pretend anymore. I want everyone to know who I’m in love with. And that’s…that’s you. Louis William Tomlinson. I am in love with you. And the whole world has to know, so-so they can know that love is real. That not everything in this world will tear them down. That if two kids like us can fall in love, anyone can.”
Tears formed in both of their eyes. They were just so happy that this was all happening. So happy that they were with each other. In this place. On one of the biggest nights of their career and all they could think about was each other. And, after all, isn’t that what love is about? Becoming totally unaware of anything wrong in the world. All that matters is that you’re with that person. And for Louis and Harry, this was love. They kissed each other softly and walked out of the room, hand in hand.
. . .
The time had come. Harry knew as soon as Katy announced them as the winner that this was the moment. The moment that everyone would know the real relationship him and Louis had. As they all huddled together, Harry leaned towards Louis, stealing a kiss from his lips. Louis nudged his face closer to Harry’s and the two shared a moment unlike anything else. Everything was perfect.
The boys were inseparable for the rest of the night. They touched each other lovingly and whispered sweet nothings into each other’s ear. Many times throughout the night, Louis stared at Harry. Analysing every part of him. Wondering how one human being could be that perfect and be his. Every so often Harry would catch Lou staring at him. They both would smile at each other and simultaneously shake their heads in disbelief that their lives really were this amazing.
When they won the second award, everything slowed down for Harry. The cheers stopped and the roaring sounds of the arena were muffled. All Harry saw was Louis. He slowly approached the ecstatic boy and hugged him tight with all of the love he could muster. He whispered, “We did it, babe. This is our life now”
Louis replied, “I wouldn’t have it any other way, Haz”
